Cyclists prevented a forest fire in Altaussee

At the end of Lake Altaussee above the Seewiese, a smoldering fire broke out yesterday when a hunter was standing high. A cyclist who wanted to enjoy the view from the elevated position accidentally discovered the fire and raised the alarm at the nearby Gasthof Seewiese. Its landlord, a member of the Altaussee volunteer fire brigade, alerted his comrades. When the fire engine arrived at the scene of the fire, the fire had already spread and heavy smoke could already be seen rising. However, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

“If it weren’t for the accidental discovery of the forest fire, the quick alarm and the absolute calm, it would have been a forest fire that was difficult to fight,” says Werner Fischer from the Altaussee volunteer fire brigade.
