Danube Limes as a tourism opportunity

Danube Limes as a tourism opportunity

The Limes, the border of the former Roman Empire, ran along the Danube to the Black Sea. In the region, the city of Passau with its Boiotro, Engelhartszell with Stanacum and Schlögen with Ioviacum are now part of the world cultural heritage.

This should result in greater opportunities for cultural tourism in our Danube region in the future, since the three world heritage sites are only 40 kilometers away and can be reached by bus, car, ship and bike. The local communities of the Limes excavations in the region have already made initial contacts. The aim is to establish a “Limes World Heritage Tour on the Danube Cycle Path” from Passau via Engelhartszell to Schlögen and back on the north side of the Danube via Obernzell to Passau, incorporating the local UNESCO World Heritage sites.
