Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed in the city of Steyr has risen again slightly. In June 2022 there was an unemployment rate of 5.3 percent, in July this value rose to 5.8 percent. In absolute figures, that is 234 people who also registered as unemployed in July. A total of 1345 men and 1271 women are now looking for a job.
In the entire federal state, Steyr is traditionally in last place with this rate. Upper Austria has an overall unemployment rate of 3.7 percent. Incidentally, the best district is Rohrbach with a rate of only 1.8 percent. Compared to July of the previous year, however, a minus of 11.7 percent can also be observed in Steyr.
Fewer long-term unemployed
The trend in long-term unemployment continues to decline steadily: 562 people have already been registered for more than a year, which is a decrease of 41.9 percent compared to the previous year. The number of AMS training participants remains stable throughout: In July, 674 people were registered for training measures.
120 young people are currently looking for an apprenticeship. However, they only find 60 training places on offer.
There are currently 1700 immediately available job offers in Steyr. With a slightly negative trend, the situation on the Steyr labor market is still positive, explains AMS manager Franz Sandmair.
Kirchdorf well ahead of Steyr
A total of 816 people – 422 women and 394 men – are currently unemployed in the Kirchdorf district. That is a minus of 8.7 percent or 0.3 percentage points compared to July of the previous year. With a rate of 3.1 percent, Kirchdorf is 0.6 percentage points below the national average and even 2.5 percentage points below the Austrian average.
47 young people are currently looking for an apprenticeship, and they have 38 apprenticeships to choose from. “The youth unemployment rate in Kirchdorf is 2.5 percent,” says Julia Bauer, head of the Kirchdorf employment service. “So the job opportunities are also very promising for those looking for an apprenticeship.”
