Many colorful notes are stuck to a blackboard in the Science Park of the Johannes Kepler University. Numerous questions are written on it: will there only be renewable energies in the future? Will Corona ever stop? Will time travel ever be possible?
The questioners are the 16 children aged 10 to 11 who took part in the “Future Conference” organized by the think tank Academia Superior at the JKU Science Holidays. “We want to give the children space to talk about the problems that concern them,” says Claudia Schwarz, managing director of the Academia Superior.
After the children formulated their questions, they worked out solutions to some problems in small groups – for example teleportation to enable more efficient mobility. “It’s all playful, but we want to take the children seriously and encourage them to think about the future,” says Schwarz.
At the last date of the workshop, Christine Haberlander (VP), LH deputy and chairwoman of Academia Superior, listened to the suggestions. “It’s very exciting to see what problems get through to the children. That’s how we see what the young generation is up to,” she says. (vaba)
