Lea goes one better: Third medal at the Unicycle World Championships

Lea Söser (12) from Gmunden from the Sportunion Gmunden section MUHFIT secured the third medal with bronze on the penultimate day of competition at the Unicycle World Championships in Grenoble (France) in the unicycle cyclocross in the youth U15 category. With that, she closes her first unicycle world championship with a complete set of medals: one gold, one silver and one bronze.

The 12-year-old’s participation in the World Championships actually began with a disappointment at the beginning of last week: of all things, she wasn’t allowed to start in her favorite discipline, the ten-kilometer road race. The reason: the diameter of her unicycle tire deviated from the norm by a few millimeters.

But then Lea got going: She won the downhill race with a lead of more than a minute. She then also won the silver medal in the cross-country race.
On Friday, the penultimate day of competition, Lea Söser finally struck again: With a top performance in the cyclocross discipline, she secured her third precious metal.

The cross-country race took place on a 1.34 kilometer circuit, a mixture of field and forest paths and a BMX parkour. The special feature of the cross-country course are the obstacles that force the riders to dismount and carry their bikes several times. For example, steep passages with many steps or artificial obstacles to crawl under.
