The city center of Perg became the meeting place for young and old on Saturday evening. At the 22nd edition of the wine festival “Vinum” Perg, an estimated 9,000 visitors cavorted around the main square until after midnight to discover what the 70 winegrowers from all over Austria and South Tyrol had to offer.
“It was exhausting, but it was great fun. Perg once again lived up to its reputation as a wine town,” said Michael Lettner on Sunday. The district manager of the ÖVP Perg was the chief organizer of the wine festival for the first time. Both in the preparation and as a contact person for big and small worries during the festival itself.
It was shown once again that the winegrowers are very happy to come to Perg. “The wine festival in Perg has been a fixed point for us for years, because we meet dear regular customers here, but we can also make new friends of our winery,” said Manfred Lieleg from the Adam-Lieleg winery in southern Styria.
Platform for winegrowing newbies
But newcomers to viticulture also found a platform at the festival to introduce themselves to the interested public. For example, four young winegrowers from the Perg district, who offered their creations for tasting in the foyer of the Raiffeisenbank. Among them is Stephan Greindl, who planted a vineyard with his wife Andrea on an area of a good two hectares in Holzleiten in the municipality of Naarn. With grape varieties specially adapted to the climatic conditions of the Machland: “Young people can be creative, which is why we pressed a Bronner in our first harvest, for example,” says the trained IT specialist and graduate of the Krems School of Viticulture.
The visitors were musically entertained by the “Mühl4tler Tanzlmusi” led by Jakob Wenigwieser. Because the hunger shouldn’t get too big when strolling from wine stand to wine stand, numerous street food trucks created a tasty culinary remedy with a wide range of products from roast pork rolls to pasta dishes with chanterelles. And anyone who stocked up on one or two new discoveries to take home at the wine festival could drop them off at the wine depot and pick them up at their leisure on Sunday morning.
