A lot of staying power is required for the extreme cycling race “Race around Austria”, where the first starters will be sent into the race this evening in Sankt Georgen im Attergau. 2,200 kilometers and more than 30,000 meters in altitude await along the borders of Austria.
The ultracycling event has already made a name for itself with 13 editions in the scene in Europe. “There is something very special on the calendar,” says Christoph Strasser. The Styrian, four-time winner of the race, has been the world’s best player in this profession for years. However, because he only won the Transcontinental Race a few days ago, he will be absent from St. Georgen this time.
Sebastian Michetschläger from Munzkirch is one of those who has already shown stamina and staying power in the saddle this year: he won the 24-hour race in Grieskirchen. “But it will be a journey into the unknown for me,” says the Innviertler before his premiere over the long distance.
If you don’t want it to be so extreme: there will also be a competition over 560 kilometers around Upper Austria again.
