Lea Söser (12) from the Sportunion Gmunden (section MUHFIT) secured a bronze medal in the unicycle cyclocross in the U15 class on the penultimate day of competition at the Unicycle World Championships in Grenoble (F). In doing so, she concludes her first unicycling world championship with a full set of medals: one gold, one silver and one bronze.
Lea’s participation in the World Championship actually began with a disappointment: of all things, she was not allowed to start in her favorite discipline, the ten-kilometer road race. The reason: the diameter of her unicycle tire deviated from the norm by a few millimeters.
But then Lea got going: She won the downhill race with a lead of more than a minute. She then also won the silver medal in the cross-country race.
On Friday, the penultimate day of the competition, Lea Söser finally struck again: With a top performance in the cyclocross discipline, she secured her third precious metal.
The cross-country race took place on a 1.34 kilometer circuit, a mixture of field and forest paths and a BMX par-kour. The special feature of the cross-country course are the obstacles that force the riders to dismount and carry their bikes several times. For example, steep passages with many steps or artificial obstacles to crawl under.
