The Junge Vikings got off to a perfect start to the season in the Regionalliga Mitte. Under the new head coach Maximilian Senft, Rieder celebrated their third victory on Friday evening.
Opponent Weiz started the game better and had a huge chance to take the lead shortly after the kick-off. However, the completion of the Weiz attacker after a perfect pass went to the crossbar. As the game progressed, Rieder came into play better, but there were few great chances in the first half. At half-time, Senft brought in Lorenzo Coco for professional player Agyemang Diawusie, who was unable to put himself in the limelight.
Akrap and Coco as match winners
Striker Valentin Akrap scored the opening goal in the 55th minute, and ten minutes later substitute Coco made it 2-0. That decided the game, and the Ried amateurs celebrated a comfortable 4-0 home win after more goals from Akrap and Coco. This puts Rieder in first place in the table.
The start of the season was less convincing for Union Gurten: After three games, coach Peter Madritsch’s team has only two points. On Saturday the Gurtners had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Gleisdorf. Offensive player Jakob Kreuzer saved the point for Gurten with his equalizer in the 80th minute.
Gurten wants to get the first three in the Upper Austrian derby against WSC Hertha Wels next Friday. The Junge Vikings will play the Wolfsberg amateurs away on Saturday.
In the Upper Austrian league, promoted Ostermiething clearly lost 3-0 at home to FC Wels. Friedburg also remained without points in the 1:2 defeat against Oedt.
