A 19-year-old boy was arrested after being found in the vicinity of the train tracks near holy olivein Catalonialocal police reported on Twitter. Police added that they have not ruled out further arrests.
Renfe has established an alternative train route that bypasses the high-speed network to take travelers from the capital to Spain’s second largest city, Barcelona, according to the statement.
7,200 travelers affected
Renfe suspended a total of 22 high-speed circulations between 6:00 and 11:00 this Monday, after the incident recorded in the railway infrastructure between Figueres-Vilafant Y l’Arboç (Tarragona), caused by the cutting and subtraction of some 600 meters of fiber optic cable and signaling in a section of the road.
This incident caused the suspension of rail traffic and has affected the high-speed trains that circulate in the Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona and Figueres-Vilafant corridors, affecting a total of 7,200 passengers.
To facilitate the mobility of travellers, the Spanish state company managed special trains as far as possible: one from Madrid to Camp de Tarragona, another from Zaragoza to Madrid, a third from Barcelona to Valencia.
The vigorous recovery of tourism sector after the pandemic this summer has tested the transport infrastructure of Spain, as in other European countries, leaving them vulnerable to any type of interruption.
