New wheel, old successes?

Training deficit after the accident in the previous year, a corona infection and a time-consuming sports manager training at the University of St. Gallen – handbiker Walter Ablinger would have many excuses if it was at the Paracycling World Championships this week in Baie-Comeau in the Canadian province of Quebec wouldn’t be quite as successful.

But the ambitious man from the Innviertel wants to throw everything into the balance in the time trial on Thursday and the road race on Saturday. After all, he celebrated the world championship title there on the high-speed circuit nine years ago.

The two-time Paralympics winner leaves nothing to chance when it comes to material. Designer Ludwig Hackinger from St. Georgen near Obernberg once again worked extra shifts for Ablinger and assembled a bike from the old fork from the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 and the newer Tokyo frame. “Maybe I’ll manage a surprise,” hopes Rainbacher. Yvonne Marzinke from Mondsee will also start alongside him at the World Championships.
