The operation was unsuccessful for the second consecutive day, after on Tuesday a team of prosecutors and police also raided the government palace without finding Paredes.
According to images broadcast by several television channels, the agents entered the family home of Pedro Castillo in the village of Chugurin the northern province of Chota.
The Superior Court of Justice authorized on Tuesday the fiscal requirement for the search because Castillo’s sister-in-law indicated up to three addresses in her identity documents.
A source from the prosecutor’s office consulted by AFP could not confirm the operation, for reasons of secrecy of the process.
However, President Pedro Castillo confirmed the action in Cajamarca at mid-morning during a public act at the Government Palace, the seat of the Executive in Lima.
“They have just entered my home,” said the president, a 52-year-old rural teacher and trade unionist who is facing up to five tax investigations for alleged corruption, an unprecedented situation for an incumbent president in Peru.
Yenifer Paredes, 26, who considers the president and his wife “parents,” is wanted for her alleged participation in a corruption and money laundering network.
In this case, she had already been summoned to testify before the Public Ministry and to appear before a control commission of the Congress Peruvian, mid-July.
Pedro Castillo had described his sister-in-law’s arrest warrant on Tuesday as a “media show”while insisting that the opposition is trying to take power “illegally and unconstitutionally.”
“Today, the Government Palace and the Presidential House, once again, have been violated with a illegal trespassing endorsed by a judge to take away from the Peruvian people their legitimate government,” he assured.
