“We notice that many refugees from Ukraine go shopping with us, which is why we now need more groceries. Sometimes it gets very scarce,” says Silvia Hofstätter, deputy RK district manager of Steyr-Land. The Red Cross markets offer goods that are made available by supermarkets, local grocery stores or by clubs, companies and private individuals. The team at the social market (Soma) in Weyer has already received many donations of goods this year.
Just recently, the leaders of the youth groups around pastoral assistant Birgit Kopf got involved in asking local residents for goods as part of a day of action. The Red Cross Market team thanked everyone involved, especially the youngsters Nicole Forstlechner, Daniel Holzinger, Alejandro Hager and Felix Haidenthaler for their work. “We are happy when the young people take the time to support our store so that the shelves can be replenished,” explains Lisa Schwaiger, contact person for the Rotkreuz store team in Weyer.
Good things can also be done for the RK social markets apart from action days such as that of the Jungschar. “In the surrounding supermarkets there are also boxes where private individuals can donate dry products such as rice, pasta or flour,” says Hofstätter. There are other markets in Großraming and Sierning.
