For a supposedly lucrative business model, a Viennese doctor and his partner continuously transferred money to a family from Serbia. When the family told the doctor about a robbery, he again paid them a large sum. In total, the doctor lost his savings of 1.1 million euros by February 2022.
The fraud trial at the Vienna Regional Court began yesterday, Wednesday. The accused is the eldest son of the Serbian family, who was arrested after the doctor lodged a complaint. The rest of the family has gone into hiding. “We saw each other as part of the family and had no suspicions,” said the doctor. The hearing was adjourned to the questioning of the doctor’s partner.
