Campfire triggered forest fire at the Eternal Wall

Several cyclists and hikers reported a fire on the Goiserer Höhenweg in the Eternal Wall on Wednesday afternoon. The spot where the fire broke out presented the emergency services with major challenges. It was located under a sheer cliff and could only be reached by a long, difficult climb. The firefighters had to carry the fire extinguishers on their backs.

The source of the fire itself was found quickly, but the fire had already spread through the forest. The dry ground had to be dug up. The emergency services had to repeatedly transport water to the fire site in order to refill the extinguishers.

They were only able to move back in towards evening. According to the Bad Goisern fire brigade, the fire started at a fireplace. “Although any fire in the forest is strictly prohibited due to the current Wall Fire Protection Ordinance,” it says.
