LINZ. Papa Anton used to be a catcher (common name: “The Gypsy”) at Vienna’s Heumarkt, eagerly handing out snacks and ear rubs, later he advanced to become a popular Stahlstadt original as the operator of the Lindbauer inn in Linz-Urfahr. Not in the ring, but on stage, his daughter Christina Kosik is now showing where Bartl gets the most: The 26-year-old is fully committed to Austropop. On August 20th, Christina and her “Gangband” are guests in the opening act for Seiler & Speer at the OÖN concert summer at Burg Clam. She also has her current singles with her, her own composition “So vü mehr” and a cover of “Someday I’ll stay durt”.

Tenacity, penetrating power, staying power, tremendous standing up qualities – all this is not only needed at the Heumarkt, but also in the tough music business. “Dad always said: ‘Don’t let yourself be bent!'”, says Kosik, who, in addition to the music, runs a sausage stand opposite the “Lindbauer” together with her older sister Jasmin. Fatherly advice that she has internalized. Because: “Especially as a woman in this business, it’s difficult. A lot of people come up with good advice – honestly meant, without any ulterior motives, but very few are.”

Brutal honesty

However, Kosik tries to be brutally honest in her songs. Her songs always arise directly from the emotion. Regardless. The song “So vü mehr” is about “people who only pretend to hide away when it really matters”. The reason for this was a dispute within their combo. But not everyone likes this directness. Their drummer left the band after hearing the song.

The story of how the new single came about is less dramatic. The fact that the girl from Linz recorded her own version of the indestructible STS classic “Someday I’ll stay durt” is only logical given Kosik’s Austropop socialization. “On the way to school we only listened to Austropop on the radio. The number is simply an Austrian anthem. Perfect for really dreaming away!” By the way: Gert Steinbäcker personally approved the cover and found it very good.

Christina Kosik is currently busy writing songs, after all her debut album will finally be released on January 13, 2023. This bears the rather unfamiliar title “13 Schiache Kinder”, whereby each of these “schiache Kinder” stands for a lesson in life that they have learned.

But before we go back to the studio, the performance in Clam is on the agenda for next week. To call the anticipation “gigantic” would be a gross understatement. Christina Kosik: “Clam is the accolade for me! It’s the most beautiful concert location in all of Austria. Being able to play there is something special. I’ve always dreamed of it!”
