After a fall: mountain rescue brought hikers to safety

The 66-year-old woman and her 70-year-old husband from the Gmunden district went on a hike on the Leonsberg (Zimnitz) near Steinbach am Attersee on Thursday. On the descent at around 5:30 p.m., the man tripped on the marked hiking trail and fell. He suffered abrasions on his face and legs.

Since the couple thought they saw a forest road not far away, they continued down the rough terrain in the direction of Weißenbachtal. On the steep slope, however, there was no progress for the woman and the man and they had to call for help exhausted. The mountain rescue service Steinbach am Attersee and the emergency doctor helicopter “Martin 3” were able to quickly locate the two hikers. The couple was rescued with a 40-meter rope and taken to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Vöcklabruck.
