The fire that broke out on Wednesday in the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital was believed to have started by 9:00 pm, destroying a prime home and injuring three firefighters, Mayor Luce said.
The mayor of the Oliveira do Hospital in the Coimbra region explained that surveillance work is underway and will continue throughout the night after the perimeter is determined to avoid the risk of reactivation.
According to José Francisco Rolo, while extinguishing the fire, three firefighters were injured and were taken to the hospital and the university center of Coimbra.
“We are monitoring the situation, nothing serious, but with enthusiasm they went to Coimbra,” he stressed.

In the afternoon, during a fire that broke out at 2:59 p.m., the wind helped spread the flames, which affected “mainly shrubs and agricultural land.”
The fire in the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital, which was heavily affected by the fires of 2017, caused a reaction of “great anguish among the population who took to the streets waiting for the fire to be extinguished.”
“The fire was brought under control thanks to the excellent organization and mobilization of air assets. There were ten aircraft and more than 300 firefighters, 90 vehicles and three tracked vehicles from Coimbra on the ground,” he stressed.
According to information available at 00:10 on the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection (ANEPC) website, 363 operational personnel were still on the ground, supported by 104 vehicles.
