After accident in biogas plant: married couple in stable condition

As the “ORF Oberösterreich” reported on Saturday, the man and the woman still have to be treated in the intensive care unit. After the accident, both were taken to hospitals in Linz and Wels in critical condition. The 58-year-old man climbed into the plant’s seven-meter-deep silo shortly before 11 a.m. on Friday to move a ladder – the OÖN reported extensively. He collapsed because of the presumably too high concentration of residual gases. His 55-year-old wife saw this and also climbed into the silo to help him. She, too, collapsed.

The son noticed the accident and informed the fire brigade and rescue services. The use was difficult because the silo is only accessible through a small opening. The fire brigade first ventilated the silo before a firefighter with heavy breathing apparatus climbed down to the two people and, with the help of his colleagues and a basket stretcher, was able to rescue them from the facility.
