Two smugglers arrested in Vienna: Eight refugees discovered in trucks

The refugee men from India and Pakistan between the ages of 23 and 43 said they wanted to apply for asylum. A migrant complained of chest pains and was taken to a hospital. According to the police, the people in the large hold were not crammed together.

The officials of the immigration police initially only found the 40-year-old driver from Romania. His 28-year-old compatriot and accomplice had escaped from the driver’s cab shortly before, but this was observed by a witness and passed on to the police. The second tout returned to the vehicle a few hours after the inspection and attempted to break it open. Another witness therefore alerted officers of the Simmering city police command, who arrested the man and, based on the ID cards found in the truck, were able to assign him to the previous case. The two accused smugglers are being taken to a prison by order of the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, the police said on Saturday.
