LASK President Siegmund Gruber said goodbye to Vice President Helmut Oberndorfer, who died a week ago, even before kick-off. “They’re playing for you today,” he concluded his speech, which was not followed by a minute’s silence but by long applause. Because of the sad occasion, the LASK sponsors gave up their places on the black dress, only the words “Thank you, Heli” were printed.
LASK played big and ended the negative series against Rapid. The last nine times in a row there was no win against the Viennese – each time against coach Dietmar Kühbauer. The Burgenlander ended the wait at his first opportunity as a LASK trainer.
Goiginger scored the lead
Marin Ljubicic, who had scored six goals in the first two rounds, initiated the first chance with the heel assist for Keito Nakamura, the Japanese shot was blocked (7th). After the second opportunity again on the left side it was 1:0: Rene Renner played the half-high Stanglpass, Peter Michorl, after the suspension had expired, replaced Hyun-seok Hong, who had been sold to Gent, as the only newcomer in the starting eleven, touched the first pole Ball, behind Thomas Goiginger completed with a header. It was the winger’s third goal of the season (10′).
Goiginger also fired the next shot on goal, which was saved for a corner kick (16′). After that, Ljubicic was close to scoring his seventh goal of the season, but fell a little short. Goiginger’s acrobatic side kick after the cross was parried by goalkeeper Niklas Hedl with a reflex, the beleaguered Robert Zulj didn’t get the shot in the goal (38′). The referee team ruled it offside, but the VAR would have allowed the goal to count.
Horvath was knocked out
It was one of Zulj’s first touches, coming on in the 34th minute for an ankle injured Sascha Horvath. Access was also involved in the 2-0: he passed Michorl’s good pass on to Ljubicic, who played a perfect pass in depth. Nakamura rounded Hedl and completed (43rd). The mood in the sold-out Raiffeisen Arena boiled.
Only in the 53rd minute did LASK goalkeeper Alexander Schlager intervene for the first time. He had no problems with the conclusion of substitute Guido Burgstaller. Rapid, who had had a good phase in the middle of the first half, ran against the black and white defence. LASK continued to have more dangerous goals: After Ljubicic assisted, Hedl parried the shot from substitute Husein Balic (72′). A minute later, the chance was reversed: Balic’s cross failed to convert Ljubicic. Michorl shot over the goal after a Balic assist (79′).
Debut of Celic
From the 82nd minute, access Nemanja Celic made his debut for the athletes. With the final whistle, Rapid scored the goal through Marco Grüll (93′). That didn’t spoil the mood: LASK ended the negative series against Rapid and is still at the top of the Bundesliga after the fourth round.
