Renovating a building the size of the Mariendom in Linz is not a matter of a few months. This takes many years and is also not cheap. On the contrary: it takes a lot of money.
The “Pro Mariendom” initiative, which is also supported by the OÖ Nachrichten, can look forward to many helping hands. This is how the “Save the Cathedral” campaign is successful: three picture windows are currently being renovated every year.
The window “Adoration of the Magi from the Orient” was extensively (and painstakingly) restored, not least thanks to the financial support of the Franciscan Sisters in Linz.
“We Francis Sisters have been very attached to St. Mary’s Cathedral since our community was founded in 1914. Before we moved to the new mother house on Losensteinerstraße in 1974, we were an active part of the cathedral parish for many years,” says General Superior Sister Raphaela Steinkleibl about the motives behind the movement Support.
Georg Starhemberg generously supported the restoration of the “Mission of the Holy Spirit” window. There is also a family connection to this, as the window was originally dedicated by Prince Camillo Starhemberg and his children, ancestors of Georg Starhemberg. Scenes from the siege of Vienna by the Turks are depicted in the lower part of this window.
