“We believe that the remaining offers represent more conservative positions and we would really like to reflect a proposal for change; in this sense and with other complexities that have arisen, I have disciplinedly taken the position of lowering my candidacy,” stressed the senator .
He took it for granted that the FG -headed by the former president Fernando Lugo– is going to maintain its fighting flags and asked the militancy of the sector “to work for the unity of the progressive sector” in Paraguay.
Towards the single candidate
The decline of Martínez’s candidacy is the result of some internal differences within the Concertación, which brings together forces that are very varied in terms of programs and methods, but which have in common the goal of dislodging from power the Colorado Partywhich, except for the incomplete mandate of Lugo (2008-12), governed in the last seven decades in Paraguay.
Martínez’s decision was valued by the head of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA)Efraín Alegre, who pretends to be the candidate of the Coalition.

Alegre highlighted that the Concertación has “democratic breadth”, warned that whoever decides to go outside the alliance “does not have a project that seeks to unite” and denounced that “there is significant financing to divide” the space.
