Manchester United’s crisis is spreading. Not only in the transfer theater around the change-willing Cristiano Ronaldo there is no end in sight. Within the team, the Portuguese is very badly written due to his listless performances – although the rest of the team is currently only appearing due to a lack of attitude and performance.
The results are also unacceptable, as was the case recently with the 4-0 defeat against Brentford. Manchester United legend Gary Neville therefore settled accounts with the club for which he had played 597 games. “Manchester United has become a footballer’s graveyard,” said Neville, who is now a TV analyst. Neville’s analysis: “75 percent of the new signings didn’t work, only five percent took off. It’s a horror story.” And he paints a bleak picture for the former Champions League winner: “If they sell Ronaldo and don’t finally get players to help, it will be a place in the bottom half of the table this season.” Coach Eric ten Hag, who has a contract until 2025, has a lot of work ahead of him. He is the fifth manager to attempt to get the club back on track after the departure of legendary coach Alex Ferguson.
Red for Liverpool’s new star
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was angry at new signing Darwin Nunez after his club’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, who was ruled out after a headbutt. “There was a provocation, but that was definitely the wrong reaction,” said Klopp after the new star’s assault. The Uruguayan Nunez, for whom Liverpool are said to have transferred 75 million euros plus possible bonus payments to Benfica in the summer, allowed himself to be carried away to headbutt Joachim Andersen. “He has to learn from it. Unfortunately, he now has three games to do that as a spectator. It’s not cool for us, but it is what it is,” Klopp said of the red card in the 57th minute.
Outnumbered, Liverpool only managed to equalize. With that, the English Cup winners got off to a false start with two draws from their first two games. Nevertheless, Klopp was very satisfied with the performance, even if he could now imagine the headlines and comments. Liverpool meets Manchester United next week.
