The runners put up a hot race on the Assumption Day at the eighth edition of the Marchtrenker Stadtgrandprix, which, with around 500 participants, could build on the number of participants before the pandemic. The weather also cooperated perfectly for the eighth time in a row. The competitions were one mile, five and ten miles as well as the 10-mile relay race.
“It is particularly pleasing that the number of participants in the ‘young & fun’ run for children and young people under the age of 14 has doubled. 100 girls and boys raced around the town hall,” says Martin Wiesinger, chairman of ASKÖ Marchtrenk, which organized the race. The OÖ Nachrichten was there as a media partner.
The Marchtrenker professional cyclist Felix Großschartner, who was on a short visit home between the Tour de France and the Germany tour, gave the starting signal at 10 a.m. Four-time Olympian Günther Weidlinger acted as moderator.
The 10-mile race was won by Jürgen Aigner (LAG Genböck Haus Ried) with the second fastest time (0:55:32), second and third place went to Matthias Aumayr (Tripower Freistadt) and Michael Bamberger (ASKÖ Laufwunder Steyr) . Anna Pabinger won the women’s race (1:03:21).
Main sponsor starlim sterner provided the largest group with more than 60 runners. The Marchtrenker club with the most participants was once again the Kappern fire brigade, which was able to collect the prize of 333.33 euros from Mayor Paul Mahr. The running festival and the strudel day taking place at the same time were not to be missed by the 1000 active participants and visitors. (krai)
