“Due to the persistent weather conditions (summer heat and associated drought), we urgently ask you to refrain from sprinkling lawns and filling swimming pools, etc..” Traunkirchen’s mayor Christoph Schragl addressed the population of his community with this appeal this week.
Although Traunkirchen is located on the Traunsee (which has drinking water quality), the town draws its tap water from two springs above the center. “And we’re slowly realizing that we’re reaching the limit,” says the mayor. “If things continue like this, there will be bottlenecks, and that will have serious effects on the population.” Schragl calls on the population to use rainwater for watering in summer.
The forecast rainfall in the coming days should defuse the situation. The community is still working on opening up another source. In view of the increasingly hot summer, this is simply necessary, says Schragl.
