The red pointed peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers grow almost all year round at the Geinberg organic farm: from the beginning of March to the end of November. The long availability is made possible by climate-friendly cultivation in a greenhouse that is heated with thermal water. This makes the organic farm unique in all of Upper Austria.
Some of the organic vegetables can be bought in the Upper Austrian Spar shops, and in all of Austria during the months when the harvest is high. “Regionality has always been an essential cornerstone of our identity,” says Jakob Leitner, Managing Director of the Sparzentrale in Marchtrenk. The organic range is constantly being expanded, he emphasizes. The cooperation with the Innviertel organic farm supports the careful production of regional food. Because the energy concept is well thought out. The required own power is covered by a photovoltaic system, the water supply by collecting rainwater. The hot Geinberg thermal water enables geothermal heating. “Even the pests are fought in an environmentally friendly way with beneficial insects and the pollination of the flowers is taken over by bumblebees,” says Patrick Haider, Managing Director of the organic farm in Geinberg, one of the most modern and environmentally friendly greenhouses in Europe. After 13 months of construction, it was completed in November 2021. The OÖN reported.
The Steiner and Perlinger families play in a one-two and spent 30 million euros on the construction. 110 employees have found long-term work in the Innviertel organic farm.
