Even before the first lockdown, it was a problem that the number of single-use packaging for delivery and takeaway food was growing rapidly. The packaging piled up in the residual waste.
Reusable instead of disposable – and at the same price: That is the idea of the start-up “and-less”. In close cooperation with the catering trade, the company has developed an innovative reusable tableware that can be used to avoid single-use waste.
This new multi-way system will be tested in a pilot project with some partners (hobby, coffee shop, littledancer, schadzi or tamu sana) in the city center until the end of September. The first experiences show: Despite the summer time, the offer is accepted. “It’s just a small pilot test, which of course can still be expanded, but we can’t complain,” says Michael Schneider from “and-less” the OÖN.
This is how it works: Instead of paying a deposit, you can use the “and-less” app to get your to-go food in free, deposit-free reusable boxes in two sizes from the participating restaurants. The containers must be returned to the restaurant partners within 14 days. There they are also hygienically cleaned and returned to the cycle. The packaging made of recyclable plastic produced in Austria can be reused up to 500 times, explains Schneider.
In addition, the boxes are dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe, which means that leftover food can be reheated in the office, for example.
In Graz, the Viennese start-up will soon start a pilot project with the “velofood” delivery service, which has 100 partners. “Something like that would also be conceivable in Linz,” says Schneider.
