A total of 20 ambitious young racing drivers aged 16 to 21 competed against each other in Ford cars at the Wachauring. The elimination rounds previously took place in the ÖAMTC driving technique centres.
The youngsters fought gripping duels on the slopes from the first to the last second. But not only the speed of the maneuvers counted, the prospective motorsport drivers also had to prove their skill behind the wheel: In the time slalom, which had to be completed on asphalt and a slippery surface similar to snow in the “in-field” of the racetrack, it quickly became apparent who the top eight were rookies. The fastest time with the lowest error rate was used as the evaluation criterion for the round. In the following individual races, the rookies tried to set their own fastest lap times. Four rookies prevailed and progressed to the next objective of completing three laps on the selective Wachauring race track in the best possible time. The two finalists, Simon Seiberl and Thomas Traußnig, went head to head for the long-awaited victory.
