In a month the time has come: the rural youth of Upper Austria will turn downtown Linz into the scene of Austria’s largest harvest festival. Preparations for the festival, which will be entitled “Austria in its diversity” on September 18th, have been underway for more than two years. More than 30,000 visitors are expected in the state capital.
This will end a long break. Because in 1991, ie 31 years ago, a nationwide harvest festival was last held in Linz. The rural youth took up this idea for the anniversary year 2021 (when the tradition keepers celebrated their 70th anniversary), but then had to postpone the festival by one year to this year due to the corona.
What will begin with a harvest procession in Linz’s Mariendom at 10 a.m. will then present the high quality of regional, local food on Domplatz, Pfarrplatz, Hauptplatz and in the Landhauspark. In addition, traditional handicrafts come to life.
