According to Mayor Klaus Luger, Linz should become a climate-neutral industrial city by 2040. “The summer shows us how great the need for action is,” says City Councilor Eva Schobesberger. Making the city worth living in is a tour de force on different levels. At the Climate Action Days from September 9th to 10th, citizens should learn more about the climate projects in Linz. “It is important not to be afraid of change. Yes, it will be different, but it will be different,” says the climate councilor. Details in the video:

In November 2019, the Linz municipal council decided on a comprehensive climate strategy. As a public launch, a climate survey to raise awareness was planned, which could not take place in recent years due to the pandemic. “The municipal council can decide, but it’s important that people also participate,” says Luger.
A weekend for the climate
But one day is no longer enough to accommodate everything, according to the mayor. That’s why there are now two: Under the motto “Make climate your topic!” the Climate Action Days will take place at the beginning of September, Linz will become a climate city during this time.
On Friday, September 9th, the start will take place with the “Symposium for a climate-friendly city” in the Knowledge Tower. For the first time, the 27 projects that have been funded by the City of Linz’s climate fund since 2020 are presented here as illustrated posters. Visitors can talk to the project teams and project managers on site.
From 6.30 p.m. the program moves to the main square. Arousing lectures, for example by star guest Marcus Wadsak, science slams from the JKU and the FH Upper Austria, cabaret artist Berni Wagner, live music with rap songs on climate protection and Co. by Ms Def and a pub quiz promise an entertaining evening.
The highlight of the event is to take place on Saturday, with excursions to climate-relevant locations such as the voestalpine hydrogen pilot plant and hands-on stations and workshops on the main square. Citizens can also talk directly to members of the climate advisory board there. (kos)
