Reichl was considered a “pioneer of social policy” and was active at the state level from November 1967 to November 1990, including as a state councilor. “For more than two decades he fought tirelessly for social justice in state politics,” said SP leader Michael Lindner. “We owe him a debt of gratitude for that.” “Hermann Reichl was there for the people, especially in the social sector, he earned lasting merit, for example through his commitment to improving the quality of life of the older generation and for children and young people with disabilities”. , said the SPÖ district party leader of Steyr city councilor Katrin Auer and state parliament member Sabine Engleitner-Neu. Steyr Mayor Markus Vogl speaks of a “politician with a heart”.

Hermann Reichl was born on March 13, 1937 in Steyr. He was active in the social democratic movement from his childhood and adolescence, he was a member of the Red Falcons and the Kinderfreunde. In 1957 he graduated from HTL. After the first years as a mechanical engineer at Vöest-Alpine, he took on a managerial position at the municipal works in Steyr. From 1970 to 1973 he was chairman of the Union of Municipal Employees.

In March 1973 he was sworn in as a provincial councillor. Hermann Reichl’s agendas were social affairs, energy and water law and the transport industry. In 1973 he also became district party chairman, a position he held until 1990. As early as 1998, Hermann Reichl was honored with the Victor Adler Plaque, the highest award of social democracy.
