Lasso “was subjected to a complementary surgical procedure of a preventive nature, which was successful,” the Executive Communications Secretariat said in a statement.
A few hours later, it was the president himself who spoke through his social networks: “Dear friends, the operation to remove the melanoma located in the lower right eyelid was successful.”
“I am in good health and I will return to Ecuador today to continue with my duties. Thank you all for your prayers,” said the leader of the CREO Movement.
Lasso announced last Tuesday, shortly before traveling to Houston, United States, that he would undergo medical tests after being diagnosed with melanoma, a type of skin cancer that, he said, is not life-threatening.
Lasso, 66, underwent surgery in his country on July 29 to remove a carcinoma from the same eyelid, after which a biopsy was performed.
