A 30-year-old from the Urfahr area drove a tractor with a slurry tanker on a steep meadow shortly before 3 p.m. on Saturday. The team slipped and fell about 100 meters into a creek bed. The driver was able to free himself and alert the rescue. The man was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Diesel from the tractor and around 12,000 liters of liquid manure flowed into the Krapfenbach and from there into the Große Rodl. The emergency services erected oil barriers to keep the contamination within limits. An expert was consulted for any further measures.
Three fire brigades were deployed to recover the tractor with a heavy crane. “Rescuing the team was difficult because the crane vehicle could not drive onto the wet, sloping meadow,” said the Sonnberg fire brigade. The tractor was pulled back onto the road using the cable winch from the fire engine and the use of several forestry cable winches.
