Corona: Hospital numbers continue to decline noticeably

1160 people infected with the corona virus were in the local hospitals on Sunday. That was 28 fewer than the day before and at least 89 fewer than on Sunday a week ago. In the intensive care unit (ICU), 66 Covid patients had to be cared for, eight fewer than a week ago.

4735 new infections

The ministries announced that 4,735 new infections with SARS-CoV-2 were recorded within 24 hours. That was practically at the same level as last Sunday (4,731) and below the average for the past seven days (5,247). However, this value says little, since testing for Corona has now become a kind of marginal phenomenon. In the past 24 hours, 46,522 rapid PCR and antigen tests have been registered. Of these, 44,412 were meaningful PCR tests, the positive rate was 10.7 percent.

The current seven-day incidence is 406.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. As of Sunday, there were 71,920 active cases in Austria, 451 more than the day before. Four more deaths related to the corona virus have been added since Saturday. 68 deaths have been registered in the past seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has officially claimed 19,342 deaths in Austria since the outbreak, with 20,568 Covid deaths already appearing on the AGES dashboard on Saturday afternoon.

2,601 vaccinations against Covid-19 were carried out on Saturday, of which 1,933 were booster vaccinations (4th, 5th and each additional vaccination dose). 5,334,977 people and thus 59.1 percent of Austrians are validly vaccinated according to the recommendation of the National Vaccination Committee (NIG). A total of 426,149 people have received a booster vaccination so far.

The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vienna with 595.8, followed by Lower Austria, Carinthia and Salzburg (477.6, 441.9 and 332.1 respectively). Then come Burgenland (320.5), Styria (315.6), Upper Austria (311.5), Tyrol (254) and Vorarlberg (244).
