With the pen, Wilhering has a place that can also give strength from silence. But that alone was not the reason why the “Forum Humanism Wilhering” was launched by the monastery and community, which, as reported on Saturday, spent three days in September in search of humanity in a digitized world will do.
In the beginning there were connections of the human kind. Municipal board member Andreas Leitner, who heads the municipality’s digitization committee, works a lot with tobacco factory boss Chris Müller. So we quickly got into conversation, Müller met with Abbot Reinhold Dessl and the idea of a congress on digital humanism soon arose. Around two years later, the idea has a name, the congress has a date (September 23 to 25) – and meanwhile there are already many active supporters and “co-thinkers” from different social classes and professions.
“Every meeting was a stepping out of everyday life,” says Mayor Mario Mühlböck (SP) and remembers the always fruitful and interesting conversations, after which all participants parted euphorically. Incidentally, the mayor is on the board of the initiative along with Abbot Reinhold Dessl and entrepreneur Melanie Hofinger.
Prioritizing what we have in common (also in political work), developing ideas in close cooperation with others and doing something together to put people back at the center of digital change – this is also supported by all parties in Wilhering, like Mühlbock.
“I see Wilhering as a place of digital contemplation,” says Deputy Mayor Markus Langthaler (VP), who is also the municipality’s tourism officer. He believes in a tremendous opportunity for the monastery as well as for the community. This would also bring further impulses for the place, for example in the infrastructure.
tourist hopes
Langthaler does not hide his “heart’s desire” to be able to bring a catering or hotel business to Wilhering, which would enrich the infrastructure, especially in the heart of Wilhering. “We would need that as an addition to the unique monastery, which is also a tourism object. Everyone could benefit from it here.”
In September, the focus will first be on the expedition, in which 30 invited women and men will take part. “An experiment with an uncertain outcome,” is what the organizers call it, who are certain of one thing. “That’s just the beginning.” (rgr)
