Ukraine admitted that in six months of war some 9,000 of its own soldiers died

“Nearly 9,000 heroes have died,” General Zaluzhny declared during a public rally, reported the Interfax-Ukraine agency, whose report was picked up by AFP.

The Russian security services (FSB) assured today that the crime committed on Saturday night against the Russian journalist Daria Duguina -daughter of a philosopher linked to the Kremlin-, and which further tightened the rope of the conflict, was prepared by the services Ukrainian secrets and committed by a Ukrainian citizen identified as Natalia Vovk, who escaped to Estonia.

“As a result of urgent investigations, the federal security service has solved the murder of Russian journalist Daria Duguina, born in 1992,” the FSB said in a statement reproduced by the Russian news agency Tass.

Daria was the daughter of Alexander Dugin, an intellectual and writer often described as a “brain” in the Western media or one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ideological mentors, who today described the event as an “undesirable crime.”

“A despicable, cruel crime put an early end to the life of Daria Duguina, a brilliant and talented person endowed with a truly Russian heart,” Putin said in a message of condolences published by the Kremlin and expressed to relatives of the young woman.

For his part, the philosopher described his daughter as a “rising star” who was “treacherously assassinated by enemies of Russia.”

“Our hearts yearn not only for revenge and retaliation, it would be too petty, not Russian style,” Dugin wrote, adding: “We just need victory.”

Meanwhile, Zelensky – who yesterday rejected any involvement of Ukraine in the Duguina crime – anticipated last night that Russia could take the “provocative” measure of prosecuting Ukrainian soldiers taken as prisoners of war in the hours before Ukraine prepares to commemorate the 31st anniversary of its independence, which coincides with the six months of war.

The Ukrainian leader cited media reports that Russia is preparing to put Ukrainian fighters captured during the seizure of the southern port of Mariupol on trial to coincide with the anniversary of Ukrainian independence the day after tomorrow.

“If this despicable trial is carried out, if our people are brought to these stages in violation of all agreements, all international rules, there will be abuses,” Zelensky said, the AFP news agency reported.

The Russian Government has repeatedly said that the combatants taken as prisoners who will be tried are mercenaries, so they are not covered by international conventions on the matter.

On the battlefront, meanwhile, the Ukrainian authorities denounced new nightly bombardments on civilian infrastructure in the Kharkov region, in eastern Ukraine, the scene of Russian offensives in recent weeks.

The mayor, Ihor Terekhov, noted on his Telegram page that the missiles hit a two-story building, that there was a small fire, and there is no information about the victims.

Last week, the Ukrainian authorities reported the death of at least 21 people due to Russian bombardments on various districts of Kharkov, including Slobid, Kholodnohirski and Saltivski, or the city of Krasnograd.

According to the British Ministry of Defense, the renewed offensive on this city by the Russian forces is a maneuver by Moscow to concentrate the Ukrainian troops on that front line, since they have control of the region.

British Intelligence assures that despite the fact that the front line in this region has hardly changed since May, Kharkov is one of the most bombed cities since the beginning of the war, possibly because it is “within the range of most types of Russian artillery”.

While the conflict continues to escalate and concern grows over the nuclear risks involved, the European Union (EU) is analyzing the creation of a large “training and organization assistance” program for the Ukrainian Army that would take place in nearby countries, he said. today the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

Fighting the Russian invasion “requires an effort not only of material supplies, but also of training and help to the organization of the Army,” Borrell said in Spain, at a press conference in the northern city of Santander.

The issue will be addressed by the European defense ministers next week in Prague, Borrel explained.
