The company warned on Tuesday that the fixed measuring cup used as standard in this device could cause ingredients to float up and condense during cooking in certain recipes, preventing the intended steam from escaping.
“As a result, in extremely rare cases, increased pressure can build up in the mixing bowl, causing the food to be cooked to escape suddenly and uncontrolled, which can lead to scalding in individual cases.” Vorwerk therefore decided to issue a public warning as a precaution, the company reported. In addition, the buyers would be informed directly. The likelihood of such an incident increases if the recommended filling level of the food is exceeded. This also applies in cases where a measuring cup from the TM6 with a tight grip is used with an older generation of devices.
Vorwerk advises users to use the cooking insert instead of the fixed measuring cup of the TM6 when cooking with temperatures above 95 degrees. So an incident is excluded. The company emphasized that a software update for the Thermomix would in future show all users an indication of the danger. The stored recipes would also be changed in such a way that the device would actively indicate proper use.
According to Vorwerk, more than eight million units of the food processor have been sold worldwide to date.
