Bolsonaro set conditions to recognize the result

The ultraconservative leader has questioned without evidence the reliability of the electronic ballot boxes in Brazil, fueling fears that he may ignore an eventual defeat against the favorite in the polls, former president Lula da Silva.

Asked if he will respect the results whatever they may be, Bolsonaro replied: “The results of the polls will be respected as long as elections are fair and transparent“He said, repeating the same phrase several times at the presenter’s insistence.

Bolsonaro was interviewed in the National Journal of the Globo group, one of the most critical of his management and, in turn, the president’s target when he usually attacks journalism. In his almost four years in office, he prioritized related and small media outlets and, essentially, his social networks as a way of communicating with the population.

During the 40-minute interview, in which the journalist William Bonner asked him to commit to respecting the electoral result, the president defended his past attacks on the electoral system, insisting that in the last elections of 2018 there were fraud and asking that the Armed forces audit the results.

“Be a Dictator”

When asked why he joined the group of parties known as “center“, whom he had accused of being a group of “thieves” during the 2018 electoral campaign, Bolsonaro replied: “You are encouraging me to be a dictatorby saying not to include that group in the official alliance.

And then he added: “the centrão is made up of 300 deputies (out of a total of 513), if I leave the centrão aside, with whom am I going to govern? Am I going to leave Parliament aside? So, you encourage me to be a dictator.”

Bolsonaro and the attacks on justice

Bolsonaro said that his supporters have the right to “freedom of expression“so they cannot be prohibited from insulting the judges or calling for a military intervention in Brazil.

He stated this in the context of his call to protest against the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the electronic ballot boxes in two military acts to be carried out in brasilia Y Rio de Janeiro on September 7, Independence Day.

He also reiterated that the Armed Forces have to audit the elections due to their distrust of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

Bolsonaro’s “machete”

The president of Brazil showed that he had four words written on the palm of his left hand: “Nicaragua“, “Argentina“, “Colombia” Y “Darius Messer“, a financier convicted in the Lava Jato anti-corruption operation. None of the issues were addressed.

In 2018, the then candidate had done the same and the image of his hand with the words “God”, “family” and “Brazil” went viral on social networks.

Lula da Silva, 76, leads the electoral race with 47% of the intention to vote against 32% for Bolsonaro, 67, according to a survey by the Institute Datafolha posted last Thursday. On Thursday he will be interviewed on the same program on the Globo network.
