A conditional prison sentence of six months and an unconditional fine of 1,800 euros were pronounced for serious bodily harm. The baby was seriously injured, but it is not yet clear whether there will be permanent consequences. The judgment is not final.
“I was overwhelmed”
The child, now 15 months old, was abused twice, once in early summer 2021 and then again in October. Both times the boy was shaken violently. As a result, he suffered bleeding in the meninges and eyes. According to the expert, it is not yet possible to say whether long-term effects will remain. If one believes the statistics, the question must be answered in the affirmative. “I was just overwhelmed, my son wouldn’t stop screaming,” the 28-year-old regretted his behavior in court.
More than 40,000 euros fine
The child’s father pleaded guilty in full. So far he has not been blamed, which is why the prison sentence of six months was conditionally suspended. He has to pay the fine of 1,800 euros, as well as the claims for damages from the health insurance company. These amount to over 41,000 euros. The father owes the injured boy partial compensation of 5,000 euros. The convicted person is also liable for future damage to health.
