“At the point where we are, we are not ready for a ceasefire”said the head of state within the framework of the Crimean Platform, a format that brings together the main states that support Ukraine and was created by kyiv before the war started on February 24.

In addition, he pointed out that a reissue of the Minsk Protocol, signed between Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the self-proclaimed independent republics of Donetks and Luganks. “We already explained that there will be no Minsk 3, no Minsk 5, Minsk 7, etc. We will not play these games,” he said.

During the virtual exhibition on Crimea, Zelensky stated that the de-occupation of that peninsula would mean “a historic step against the war in Europe” since “It is not just a territory, it is not just a piece in the game of geopolitics (…) For Ukraine, Crimea is part of our people, of our society.”

According to the Ukrainian president, the “degradation” of Russia began with the seizure of Crimea in 2014 and, although he thanked the support of “many people from all over the world”, he regretted that others remained silent, “pretending not to realize what was happening.”

“And that, in my opinion, has been one of the main reasons for everything that is happening now in Ukraine and in the world,” he said, without naming anyone in particular.

In that sense, he stressed that the peninsula serves as a key location for the Russian forces’ offensive, from where he said some 750 missiles would have been launched against “hundreds of civilian targets,” the Europa Press news agency reported.

“Crimea was and is Ukrainian”Zelensky insisted and added that “it will form part of the European Union” in the future, once kyiv completes an accession for which there are still no deadlines.

Support for Ukraine

The summit Today’s virtual meeting, heir to another held in August 2021, allowed Ukraine to achieve the explicit support of fifty world leaders for its demands.

“We condemn Russia. We will never recognize any attempt to change the status of any part of Ukraine,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in his speech.who pointed out that “no mock referendum will be recognized.”

Meanwhile, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, believed that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, “He wants to do to all of Ukraine what he did in Crimea”, annexed by Moscow eight years ago after a plebiscite not recognized by kyiv or by Westerners.

Johnson, like his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau, he promised to continue aid to kyiv and the policy of sanctions against Moscow “until Russia ends the war and withdraws its troops,” the AFP news agency reported.

Along the same lines, the French president expressed himself, Emmanuel Macron, who called for “no weakness, no spirit of compromise” against Russia and asked Moscow for a “cessation of hostilities” and to choose “diplomacy to rebuild peace”, in addition to the withdrawal of its troops “from the entire territory Ukrainian”.

In a joint statement, the leaders participating in this virtual meeting pointed out that the Russian annexation of Crimea was “illegal” and a violation of the Ukrainian territorial integrity.

Consequently, they demanded an end to the “temporary” occupation of the peninsula and called on the Kremlin to fulfill its international obligations, while meanwhile defending maintaining “pressure” on Moscow.
