Angelique Kerber is expecting her first child and will therefore not attend the US Open in New York. “I really wanted to play the US Open, but I decided that two against one is just not a fair competition,” jokes Kerber on Instagram. For the next few months she will take a break from traveling the world as a tennis pro, “I think for the best reason there is,” she adds.
The 34-year-old is in a relationship with fitness entrepreneur Franco Bianco. Kerber wants to continue her career after the birth. The goal is the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The current number 52 in the world won three Grand Slam titles in her career (Australian Open 2016, US Open 2016, Wimbledon 2018) and topped the WTA rankings in September 2016.
