Those interested in sports are spoiled for choice at the weekend. If you want to combine enjoyment and running, the Weberzeile Stadtlauf Ried is probably the best place to be. On Saturday, August 27th, hundreds of runners will start there for the first time on new routes. Visitors can not only watch and cheer them on, but also make a detour to the Rieder Enjoyment Festival, which takes place at the same time.
There will be significantly more decibels than in the center of Rieder on Saturday, August 27th and Sunday, August 28th at the Güpl in Asenham (Übernbach). The Austrian Association and Club Championships take place there, followed by the Austrian Motocross State Championships in all racing classes the following day. In addition to hot and probably dusty duels on the slopes, there is also an attractive supporting program for visitors including a freestyle motocross show, an autograph session and much more.
Two-wheelers also dominate in Braunau at the weekend – albeit without motorisation. At the 23rd Braunau Cycling Days, amateur and elite cyclists will first race through the city centre. So fast that even a radar device has to be switched off. On Sunday, the race for the Borbet Austria prize is on the program. From 11 a.m. the two-wheeler specialists will tackle the 140 kilometers from the Ranshofner Schlossberg.
It will also be loud in Schwand on Sunday. The seventh and eighth rounds of the Austrian stock car state championship will be held in the Motodrom Hinterholz. Two days later it was David versus Goliath in Gurten. There, the regional league team will play the cup game against Salzburg on Tuesday, August 30 at 8:30 p.m.
Two women, one mission: to set up a running festival
On Saturday, August 27th, the Weberzeile Stadtlauf Ried – organized by the LAG Genböck Haus Ried – will take place for the 38th time. There will be a premiere: for the first time, the main run will be 7.2 kilometers instead of ten and will start at 5:30 p.m. In addition, there is another change: This year, for the first time, two young women are responsible for the organization: Jasmin Zweimüller and Steffi Mühlbauer. The two women from Rieder have been working for months to organize a running festival on Saturday.
Not an easy task next to their full-time jobs, but one that both of them are passionate about. “The past two weeks have been extreme, but I’ve had a really good feeling since our last big meeting on Monday evening,” says Zweimüller, who is currently busy with a thousand things. For example, transporting 1000 bottles of mineral water to Ried. “They don’t just fit in a normal car,” says the organizer. But so far, she and her team have found the right solution for every challenge.
What Jasmin Zweimüller is looking forward to, who has been dreaming about the upcoming construction work (“It wasn’t a nightmare. Everything worked”), are the discussions with the participants – regardless of whether they are very fast or amateur runners – afterwards. “It’s all a big learning process for Steffi and me. That’s why I’m excited to see what feedback we’ll get afterwards. Hopefully people won’t be too strict with us,” says the physiotherapist before the premiere.
Novelty number three: for the first time there will be a walking competition over two laps (2.9 kilometers). This will start at the same time as the hobby or company run over 4.3 kilometers at 4.30 p.m. Then it’s time to be quick. Just like the sweepstakes. (elha)
Further information and registration for the city run online at rieder-stadtlauf.at. The OÖ Nachrichten is giving away ten starting places. Send an e-mail with your name, place of residence and the desired route length to e.ertl@nachrichten.at by Friday, August 26, 12 noon. The winners will be notified in writing on Friday.
Dwarfs on wheels and athletes racing through the city at 70 km/h
In 2021 there was a children’s race at the Braunauer Radsporttage for the first time. 25 little ones were at the start – many of them only decided to take part on the day of the race. This year almost 30 young cyclists have already registered a few days before the competitions. Some of them will hit the gas with the impeller. Regardless of which vehicle you choose, helmets are compulsory for everyone. And there is the possibility of taking out free liability insurance on site with the ARBÖ racing sponsor. In order to attract as many children as possible to Braunau at the weekend, organizer Erwin Hörtl and his colleagues from ARBÖ Radsport Braunau distributed 1,000 flyers in the surrounding schools before the start of the holidays. “Maybe some of you will decide to come spontaneously again this year. We would be happy about that,” says Hörtl. The children will be rewarded in any case: with ice cream and a medal.
After the children, women and hobby cyclists (note: no triathlon handlebars are allowed for hobby cyclists), the pros will be in action on Saturday, August 27, from 6 p.m. At the criterion they will race through the city center at up to 70 km/h. There are a few contenders for victory on the list of participants. Among others Daniel Bichlmann (Maloja Pushbikers) and Jonas Schmeiser (RSC Kempten). Whoever wins the race, organizer Erwin Hörtl is already looking forward to a moment: “The award ceremony after the road race on Sunday. If everything went well and no one was injured, then it was a good weekend.” (elha)
The Schedule: The 23rd International Braunau Cycling Days (also open district championship for unlicensed and women’s league races for the price of the company Borbet Austria) will take place on Saturday, August 27th. It starts on the town square in Braunau from 4 p.m. with the Raiffeisen children’s bike race. At 4:20 p.m., the unlicensed take to the track. The women’s race starts at 5 p.m., with the Elite, U23 and amateur riders starting at 6 p.m. In the latter, the participants complete a total of 40 laps (49.2 km). On Sunday, August 28, at 11 a.m., the race (part of the ÖRV Radliga) will take place for the Borbet Austria prize. It starts on the Schlossberg in Ranshofen. The route length is more than 140 kilometers.
Sandner comes as a favorite for the PS spectacle
HSV Ried presents the strongest field of participants of all time at this year’s motocross spectacle at Güpl in Asenham. While the Austrian association and club championship will be held on Saturday, August 27th, a total of eight races (4 classes) of the motocross national championship are on the program on Sunday. Michael Sandner from the organizer HSV Ried is going into the race as the top favorite of the MX Open ÖM. Despite the home advantage, it won’t be a walk in the park for the world championship driver, because with Frenchman Maxime Grau and the two Dutchmen Kay de Wolf and Roan van de Moosdijk, three other world championship drivers will line up next to him.
Although Sandner had to miss a race weekend this year due to clashes with the European Championship, the 23-year-old is currently third in the overall standings with 181 points and still has a chance of winning the state championship title. “We only settle up at the end,” said the HSV Ried pilot from Peterskirchen combatively. Team colleague Manuel Bermanschläger also had a tough fight. The Taiskirchner is currently sixth in the overall standings, but is still not pain-free after a multiple fracture in his wrist. The 31-year-old is still confident of a top-five result on his home track.
Speaking of the home stretch: To ensure that everything runs smoothly at the weekend at Güpl, those responsible at HSV Ried have been working tirelessly for weeks. After all, everything (electricity, water, paddock, food, etc.) has to be brought up the mountain. Efforts that are always worth it in the end. What HSV President Jürgen Kinz and his colleagues still want is just one thing: “Rain, so that our pond is well filled and we can wash the track properly before the motocross races.” This requires around 100,000 liters.
Pretty much “supply”
Significantly less is required to watch the PS spectacle live: there is again a weekend ticket that costs 16 euros in advance. Admission is free for children and young people up to the age of 15 on both days. No wonder, because young people are particularly important to HSV Ried (for years). Not least because of this, the people of the Innviertel have their own rookie team. “We’ll see some of them at Güpl in a few years,” Dominik Kühberger, secretary of HSV Ried, is certain. (elha)
With 350 hp through the Motodrom in Hinterholz
The CDG Schwand is happy. The reason: This year the club can invite you to the stock car race under reasonably normal conditions. On Sunday, August 28th, the seventh and eighth rounds of the Austrian Stock Car State Championship will take place in the Motodrom Hinterholz / Schwand. The event begins at 12:30 p.m. In total, around 100 participants will hold 20 races on this race day.
The up to 350 hp cars and their fearless drivers will again “reward” the spectators with plenty of rollovers, jostling and exciting duels. Of course, safety is also taken into account. That’s why every racing car is subjected to a thorough “inspection” in the morning.
It will be particularly exciting for the local heroes Rene Biribauer and Florian Wansch, who are currently in first and second place in the ranking. The spectators can watch the race, duels and crashes from the comfort of the natural grandstand. As a supporting program for the children there is a bouncy castle and sand playgrounds, the organizer takes care of the physical well-being. If the weather does not cooperate, the race will be postponed to September 4th. Further information: www.cdg-schwand.com.
Gurten welcomes Red Bull Salzburg in the Cup
It’s David versus Goliath on Tuesday, August 30, at 8:30 p.m. in Ried. There, in the second round of the Uniqa ÖFB Cup, reginalligist Gurten meets none other than Red Bull Salzburg, the champion and cup winner of recent years. “This game will be an experience for each of us or a highlight in our career. My team earned and deserved this game due to an extraordinary performance. We will play against the reigning champions with humility and enthusiasm – and enjoy it. Maybe we can annoy him a bit here and there,” said coach Peter Madritsch. Since this game was also selected as an ORF live game, this game will be played in the Josko Arena in Ried.
Gurten player Simon Schnaitter is also full of anticipation. “For us, the Cup cracker against Salzburg is a small childhood dream come true. We have earned this game thanks to the strong performances in the past season. We hope to get a lot of support from our fans.” The north, south and east grandstands are open. Tickets are still available for all areas. Advance tickets are available from Raiffeisenbank Gurten, the SVR office and online at tickets.union-gurten.at.
