Next week the annual film festival will start again in Venice. Last year, Oscar-nominated films such as “Dune”, “Spencer” or “The Power of the Dog” delighted viewers. The same expectations exist for the films that will be presented for the first time at the beginning of September. Well-known actors such as Hugh Jackman, Adam Driver, Ana de Armas and many more will be there this year to represent their films on the red carpet.
The most promising films
- Don’t Worry Darling, Olivia Wilde: Directed by Olivia Wilde, an American actress and director, the psychological thriller is set in the 1950s and opens in cinemas on September 23. Alice (Florence Pugh) lives a rather boring life as a housewife, her husband (Harry Styles) is fully devoted to the mysterious “Victory Project”.

- Bones and All, Luca Guadagnino: In 2018, film director Luca Guadagnino was nominated for an Oscar for his film “Call me by your name”. The actor Timothée Chalamet, who occupies one of the two leading roles in the new film “Bones and All”, was also nominated for the category “Best Actor”. The horror drama hits theaters on November 23 and stars Timothée Chalamet, among others, Taylor Russel and Mark Rylance.

- White Noise, Noah Baumbach: Screenwriter and film director Noah Baumbach is once again presenting a promising film at the film festival. That was the case for the first time in 2019, with the film “Marriage Story”, which also won an Oscar. As in “Marriage Story”, the lead role is occupied by Adam Driver. Also with White Noise as an actress: Baumbach’s partner Greta Gerwig. The all-rounder has attracted attention in the past as a director of films such as “Little Women” or “Lady Bird”.
- The Son, Florian Teller: The family drama is an adaptation of the stage play of the same name by the French director and author Florian Teller. The film will premiere on November 7th. It stars Hugh Jackman, Vanessa Kirby, Laura Dern, Zen McGrath and Anthony Hopkins.
- TAR, Todd Field: The film is about a female conductor (Cate Blanchett) who is the first woman to lead a large German orchestra. She has to prove herself in this mainly male-dominated profession.
