Comparison with poor farmers: Kneissl expects the EU to be a petitioner to Putin

Comparison with poor farmers: Kneissl expects the EU to be a petitioner to Putin

Former Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl (FPÖ) sparked excitement with a tweet about the Ukraine war. She posted a Russian meme on Thursday, which – based on a historical Lenin image – shows the Europeans as poor farmers who act as petitioners to Krem boss Vladimir Putin.

“February 2023. Putin receives a delegation from the EU,” reads the caption. “One day the time will come for diplomacy, for real talks,” wrote Kneissl.

The tweet was maliciously commented on online, including by correspondents from international media. The Moscow bureau chief of the “Financial Times”, Max Seddon, pointed out, like many other users, that Kneissl danced with Putin at her wedding and sat on the Rosneft board of directors. “It’s scary that you were able to become foreign minister in Austria,” wrote the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Bild” newspaper, Paul Ronzheimer.

According to media reports, Kneissl now lives in Lebanon.
