The ORF business magazine “ECO” reported on Thursday evening, citing Eurostat data, as announced in advance. Accordingly, the Alpine republic is the front runner in Europe. For comparison, it was 451 euros in Germany and 325 euros on average in the EU. In Switzerland, 82 euros flowed per capita. Hungary was at the bottom with 20 euros.
“Cost what it may”
The federal government had started the aid under the slogan “Cost it what it may”, as formulated by the then Chancellor and ex-ÖVP leader Sebastian Kurz. COFAG was founded as a vehicle for processing, and was recently heavily criticized in a rough report by the Court of Auditors. At the end of July, COFAG had paid out or granted EUR 17 billion in aid and guarantees.
Overfunding not excluded
A possible over-funding of some companies was not ruled out by the RH. In addition, there was the expensive purchase of external expertise. 21 million euros were spent on consultants alone. ÖVP politician defended the creation and behavior of COFAG after the rough report became public. The opposition parties saw their constant criticism of COFAG confirmed. A final report from the Court of Auditors on the Corona Aid Agency is only being prepared.
