Volunteering: Much more than just training and organizing

Being willing to get involved for others, to encourage children in sports and to actively help shape club life – all of this makes up the work of the more than 200,000 volunteers in Upper Austria. And so they are essential cornerstones for society.

The years of the pandemic in particular made it clear how much joint movement was missing – especially among the children. After all, it is the clubs and youth trainers who encourage children and young people to take part in sport with their organization and quality.

The fact that voluntary commitment is not a matter of course is to be emphasized again this year with the honorary work award. The election of the secret heroes of sport, which is organized by Sportland Oberösterreich together with OÖ Nachrichten, Tips, Life Radio and TV1, has already shown in recent years how diverse volunteering is and how important each individual activity is in club life. “Many are very busy professionally, privately there are many offers and opportunities to spend one’s free time. That’s why we want to say thank you with the volunteer award,” says Sports Councilor Markus Achleitner (VP).

still today, Friday, you can nominate your secret sports hero for the 2022 volunteer election. Voting begins next Wednesday August 31st. Further information on the nomination can be found at nachrichten.at/ehrenamt
