Shots were fired during police operations in Tyrol – 14-year-old injured

Shortly before five on Friday morning, a police patrol in Wörgl (Kufstein district) wanted to check a suspicious van. As the “Tiroler Tageszeitung” reports online, the driver fled via Loferer Straße to St. Johann (Kitzbühel district).

In the area of the station, the van came to a standstill on the tracks. According to initial information, three people jumped out of the car and fled. According to the police, it is a 19- and a 14-year-old Austrian and a 13-year-old Russian. Police officers then fired shots, the 14-year-old was injured.

The youth was taken to the St. Johann hospital. “According to current information, however, his life is not in danger,” a police spokesman is quoted as saying in the report. The other two suspects fled on foot but have since been arrested.

The exact background was initially unclear. In the morning, among other things, the suspects were to be questioned, said investigator Wolfgang Weninger from the Tyrolean State Criminal Police Office to the APA. In any case, the police wanted to carry out another check at the crime scene in St. Johann. Whether the shot was fired while the suspects were still in the vehicle or had already got out is still the subject of the investigation. It was also initially unclear whether the accused were also armed.

Because the van was on the tracks, according to ORF Tirol, rail traffic between Kitzbühel and Hochfilzen was temporarily affected. A temporary rail replacement service was set up between Kitzbühel and St. Johann.
