Portuguese foreign minister forced to take shelter upon arrival in Zhytomyr

The foreign minister was received this Wednesday in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, to the sound of air sirens, and discussed with local authorities in an underground shelter Portugal’s support for rebuilding schools in the region.

As soon as he arrived in a city in central Ukraine, about 150 km west of Kyiv, just before 5 p.m. (3 p.m. in Portugal), Joao Gomes Cravinho was taken to the shelter of the Regional Civil and Military Administration of Zhytomyr, where he remained for about half an hour with local authorities “to consider all possibilities of support from Portugal for the reconstruction of this region, especially in the field of education and schools.”

Anxiety about the experience of being in an underground shelter, which basically corresponds to the basements of the building, has already been silenced, the official admitted to reporters that it was a “new and different experience”, recalling that this is the day of today’s Ukrainians.
