Heavy passenger traffic on the north-south routes

To the south, the Munich – Salzburg – Villach – Karawanken tunnel axis was once again the most heavily used. From the A8 in Bavaria from Anger to the A10 in Salzburg at Puch, the journey continued for more than 15 kilometers, mostly at walking pace.

According to the ÖAMTC, there were also around 15 kilometers of heavy traffic and traffic jams on the Tauernautobahn (A10) between Hüttau and Flachau, where block processing was activated. In Carinthia, the Oswaldiberg tunnel near Villach was temporarily closed to the south due to a defective vehicle, and an almost ten-kilometer traffic jam quickly formed here. After all, the waiting time in front of the Karawanken Tunnel on the A11 towards Slovenia was a good hour.

From the morning onwards, however, return traffic towards the north was already noticeable on the transit routes towards the north. There was also a good hour’s waiting time before the Karawanken tunnel in the direction of Austria. In Styria there were already delays on the A9 between Peggau and Übelbach in front of a construction site. The first northbound traffic jams also occurred in Salzburg on the A10 near Werfen and before the Salzburg motorway triangle in the direction of Walserberg and in Tyrol on the Fernpass route (B179). “Into the afternoon, return traffic to the north will increase, while traffic to the south will decrease,” according to the ÖAMTC.
